Data Element Source Data Identifiers

Source data identifiers locate the actual data associated with a data element. The identification process matches the source data identifiers defined in the data element to the field and column names defined within the metadata.

Within a data element, source data identifiers are created to provide information about how to find the instances of data for the data element. Each data element can include as many source data identifiers as are necessary to locate the data for the data element. Each source data identifier is assigned a name, and these names must be unique within the data element. Default names are provided.

Processing options can be overridden within the source data identifiers. Any options specified in the source data identifier are used in place of the option specified for the data element and only apply to the data identified by that source data identifier. Source data identifiers can include custom normalization expressions.

At disguise execution time, the data identification process is invoked to match the content of the source data identifier against the metadata of the object being disguised. For z/OS files, the metadata is the COBOL or PL/I layout. For DBMS objects, the metadata is the column definition from the DBMS catalog.

To create a new source data identifier, see Create-a-New-Source-Data-Identifier.
