Concatenation lists preferences


The Concatenation Lists preferences page allows users to do the following in Host Explorer:

  • Configure concatenation lists.
  • Add datasets to a concatenation list.
  • Validate a concatenation list.
  • Set the active copybook.
  • Edit, duplicate, or remove concatenation lists.

To access the Concatenation Lists preferences page

Do one of the following:

  • On the toolbar, click copybookconcatenationlist.png.
  • From the Window menu, select Preferences. On the Preferences dialog box, toggle open the node, then toggle open the Host Explorer node. Select Copybook Concatenation.

The Concatenation Lists page appears.

To create a concatenation list

  1. On the Concatenation Lists page, click New. The New Copybook Concatenation List dialog box appears.
  2. Type a name for the concatenation list and click OK. The list is added to the Preferences dialog box.
  3. If done, click OK.

To add datasets

  1. On the Concatenation Lists page, select the appropriate concatenation list and click Add. The Add Dataset dialog box appears.
  2. Enter one dataset per line or browse to and select datasets, then click OK. The datasets are added to the Preferences dialog box.
  3. Arrange datasets in the desired priority search order by selecting them and using the Move Up and Move Down buttons. Datasets can be multi-selected.
  4. If done, click OK.

To add datasets from the Host Explorer view

  1. From the Host Explorer view, select and right-click the datasets and select Add to Copybook Concatenation List and then select either of the following:

    • New Copybook Concatenation List. The New Copybook Concatenation List dialog box appears. Type a name for the concatenation list and click OK.
    • <existing concatenation list>

    The Concatenation Lists page of the Preferences dialog box appears with the selected dataset within the selected concatenation list.

  2. Arrange datasets in the proper search order by selecting them and using the Move Up and Move Down buttons. Datasets can be multi-selected.
  3. If done, click OK.

To validate a list

  1. On the Concatenation Lists page, select the concatenation list and click Validate. The first time you validate a list, the Select Host dialog box appears; confirm the host to use for validation of the datasets in the list. When validation processing is complete, a message appears indicating success or failure. Failure occurs for any of the following reasons:
    • Failure_reasons not found - The dataset does not exist.
    • not partitioned - The dataset is not a PDS or PDS
    • migrated - The dataset is migrated and must be recalled before it can be validate
    • no READ authority - The user does not have read access to the datase
  2. If done, click OK.

To change the concatenation list to be used for the next download

  1. On the Concatenation Lists page, select the desired concatenation list from Active Copybook Concatenation List dropdown list.
  2. If done, click OK.

To edit a concatenation list name

  1. On the Concatenation Lists page, select the concatenation list and click Edit. The Edit Copybook Concatenation List dialog box appears.
  2. Edit the name as necessary and click OK. The updated name appears on the Preferences dialog box.
  3. If done, click OK.

To edit a dataset name

  1. On the Concatenation Lists page, select the dataset and click Edit. The Edit Dataset dialog box appears.
  2. Do either of the following:
    • Edit the name as necessary and click OK. The updated name appears on the Preferences dialog box.
    • Click Browse to browse to and select another dataset. Click OK. The original dataset is replaced on the Preferences dialog box.
  3. If done, click OK.

To duplicate a concatenation list

  1. On the Concatenation Lists page, select the concatenation list and click Duplicate. The Duplicate Copybook Concatenation List dialog box appears. The Name field shows the original list name followed by a number indicating the duplication.
  2. If desired, revise the name in the Name field.
  3. Click OK. The new concatenation list is added to the Copybook concatenation lists box on the Preferences dialog box.
  4. If done, click OK.

To remove a concatenation list or dataset

  1. On the Concatenation Lists page, select the item(s) and click Remove. Selected items are removed from the dialog box.
  2. If done, click OK.
