Host Explorer preferences

The Host Explorer Preferences page is used to control the operation of the Host Explorer plug-in, configure host connections in the Host Explorer plug-in, control the inclusion of host types in the Host Explorer plug-in, control the JES Explorer view in the Host Explorer, and set up automated job completion notification.

To set host explorer preferences

1. From the Windows menu, select Preferences. The Preferences dialog box appears.

2. Select Compuware>Host Explorer to display the Host Explorer preferences page.

   Warning

   Important

   This setting does not apply to DDIO members or Endevor members.

3. To set the default mode for opening datasets, select either the Browse or Edit radio button. When double-clicked in the Host Explorer view, datasets will automatically open in the selected mode. The default is Edit.
4. To show a warning when files are edited outside of a Compuware editor, select the Show warning when files are edited outside of a Compuware editor check box. Clear the check box to disable the warning message.
5. To convert backslash characters into yen signs when using code page 930, select the Convert backslash characters into yen signs check box. Clear the check box to disable this functionality. This preference has no effect if code page 930 is not being used.
6. To show a warning message when binary data is encountered while attempting to open a dataset in browse mode, select the Show message when browsing files with binary data check box. When such data is encountered, the binary data is converted to  characters and, to prevent possible data corruption, the resource is opened in browse mode and cannot be edited. Clear the check box to disable the warning message.
7. To enable or disable the display of migrated datasets within Host Explorer, select the Display migrated datasets check box. Clear the check box to disable the display of migrated datasets within Host Explorer.
8. To enable or disable the display of hidden files within Host Explorer, select the Display hidden files check box. Clear the check box to disable the display of hidden files within Host Explorer.

9. To enable bidirectional data flow between the host and the workstation for Hebrew text, select the Enable bidirectional data flow between the host and workstation for Hebrew text check box. This results in visually ordered Hebrew text stored on the mainframe to be downloaded in logical order for proper display in an editor. It also causes logically ordered Hebrew text from the workstation to be uploaded in visual order for storage. Clear the check box to instead have Hebrew text downloaded and uploaded in the order in which it is stored on the mainframe.

    is required for this bidirectional text preference to take effect.

10. To insert left-to-right (LTR) control characters when translating mainframe resources that contain Hebrew data, select the Insert left-to-right control characters check box. This causes numbers to display according to LTR ordering rules (rather than Hebrew (right-to-left) ordering). Clear the check box to display numbers according to Hebrew ordering. This check box is only enabled if the Enable bidirectional data flow between the host and workstation for Hebrew text check box is selected.

11. Click OK.

JDBC Drivers Preference

The JDBC Drivers page is used to view and define JDBC database drivers. For Oracle and DB2 LUW databases, you must select the driver type and click Edit to browse to the location of your driver. You may not set up a connection to a database type until a driver is defined for that type of database. SQL Server and Sybase drivers are provided automatically and do not need to be configured.
