z/OS Dataset and z/OS UNIX Modes
When displaying z/OS and z/OS UNIX data, in addition to Formatted Table Mode and Formatted Row Mode, there is one other display: Unformatted Table Mode. The Layout Formatted and the Unformatted tabs at the lower left corner of the data display allow you to switch display modes.
Single Layout
When using a single layout, all data display modes are available.
Upon initial entry to the data display, file data is presented in Formatted Table Mode, where each column of the matrix represents an elementary field in the layout, and each row in the matrix represents a record in the file. Each cell contains a value formatted based on the record layout field attributes for that field in a record. In Edit mode, click in the cell to begin editing the value. The value you enter must conform to the format of the field or it will be considered an error. Use the icon at the top right to invoke the Formatted Row Mode display.
