Performance

Generating

Total Test

cases for very large programs may require increasing the memory allocated to

Workbench for Eclipse

based on the available memory of the system.

It always helps to improve the performance by providing more Java memory if it is possible. There are two ways to do this:

  1. Edit the topaz.ini file in your installation directory of Workbench for Eclipse (by default the path is C:\Program Files\BMC\Workbench\eclipse):
    1. Find the entries:
      -Xms256m
      -Xmx2048m
    2. Change them to:
      -Xms512m
      -Xmx3072m
This change increases the amount of memory available to the Workbench for Eclipse and Total Test.
When working with very large data structures, change the setting to:
      -Xms2048m
      -Xmx4096m
    3. Save the topaz.ini file and restart Workbench for Eclipse.
  2. Alternatively, you can create a Windows shortcut to override the memory values specified in the topaz.ini file without making changes to the executable file:
    1. Right-click the topaz.exe file in your installation directory of Workbench for Eclipse (by default the path is C:\Program Files\BMC\Workbench\eclipse).
    2. Select Create Shortcut.
    3. Click Yes in the pop-up to create the shortcut on the desktop.
    4. Go to your desktop.
    5. Right-click the newly created shortcut icon.
    6. Select Properties.
    7. In the Target field of the Shortcut tab, add the following memory parameters to the end of the entry, for example:
      C:\Program Files\BMC\Workbench\eclipse\topaz.exe -vmargs -Xms512m -Xmx3072m
    8. Click OK.
    9. Double-click the shortcut to start Workbench for Eclipse with the new memory parameter values.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
