Choosing a VSAM utility option

The VSAM utility screen is where you specify which VSAM option you want to perform and the necessary background information needed to process the request. The selected option is typed in the OPTION field near the top of the screen. Options for processing include:

  • AK—Allocate VSAM KSDS
  • AE—Allocate VSAM ESDS
  • AR—Allocate VSAM RRDS
  • AZ—Allocate VSAM zFS
  • AB—Allocate VSAM KSDS BSON database
  • AL—Allocate VSAM Linear Dataset
  • AX—Allocate VSAM Alternate Index
  • AP—Allocate VSAM Path
  • AJ—Allocate VSAM KSDS JSON Database
  • AI—Allocate IAM Dataset
  • D—Delete any data set
  • DR—Delete/Define any VSAM dataset
  • B—Build alternate index
  • R—Rename components
  • M—Modify components
  • BLANK—Display information about any data set
