REPLACE


REPLACE replaces a field with a specified value. The following table describes the parameters for the REPLACE exit.

Specify the value to place in field.

Output Field Format

  • Binary (COMP) fields may be 2, 4, or 8 bytes long. The value must be only numeric and may have a trailing sign.
  • Character field may be fixed or variable 1 - 250 bytes. Output fields are not padded with blanks. The length of the parameter value determines how many bytes are replaced. Enclose the value in quotes (") to include trailing blanks.
  • DBCS fields may be fixed or variable 1 - 124 double byte characters enclosed with shift-out and shift-in characters.
  • Numeric (EXTERNAL,DISPLAY) fields can be 1 - 18 digits, must be numeric, and may include an embedded trailing sign.
  • Packed (COMP-3) fields can be 1 - 18 digits (1 - 10 bytes) with or without a sign. The value must be numeric.

Important

You do not need to code leading zeros for binary, numeric, or packed fields.
