Load IMS managed ACB Dynamic PSB

If your IMS environment definition includes support for IMS Managed ACB, the Dataset Specification panel is displayed as follows:

Data Base Load - Dataset Specification screen (IMS Managed ACB)

The top of the panel displays the environment definition name and description that is in effect for the current session. It also includes a line identifying the extent of the IMS Catalog support, for example:

The following table describes the fields in this panel:

Field

Description

Processing Option

Controls how File-AID for IMS updates the database.

Valid options are as follows:

  • I—Inserts the segments into an already initialized database. If a segment being inserted already exists, the segment is not inserted, and a message is written to an exception report (see Database Load Reports).
  • U—Similar to I, except that existing segments are replaced with the new data.
  • R—Differs from the U and I options. It allows an entire database record to be replaced with the segment images in the extract data set that represent the new database record to be loaded.

    Important

This option is not supported for databases that have key multiple roots or logical children that lack fully qualified concatenated keys.

When using the R load option, an IXPDEL data set is allocated. Images of database records deleted during R mode processing will be written to the IXPDEL data set. You may restore these deleted database records, if needed, by using the IXPDEL data set as input to another R mode load.

Important

You can not load uninitialized, HSAM, and SHSAM databases by using a processing option of I, U, or R.

If you are loading a FAST PATH database, you must use a processing option of I, U, or R in BMP mode, depending on the type of FAST PATH databases being loaded and the types of calls allowed by IMS.

If you have an uninitialized database, take the database off-line, initialize the database using File-AID for IMS, Option 3.1, bring it back on-line, and load it using the File-AID for IMS load function with a processing option of U or I.

FROM dataset

Name of the data set that contains the data that you want to load (that is, the FROM file). This file must be in File-AID for IMS unload format as created by the Extract function (Option 4.1).

Important

The Data Base Load dialogue checks the header of the load file. If it indicates that the load file is encrypted, the load request will be stopped.

Member

If the FROM file is a partitioned dataset (PDS), enter the member that contains the data that you want load. If the Member field for a PDS is left blank, a member list is displayed.

Volser

Volume serial number of the disk or tape that contains the data set

DBD Member

Enter the member that describes the database that you want to load (that is, the TO database). You must describe a physical database. Logical and index DBDs are not supported. To select the DBD from the list of DBDs in the PSB, leave Member blank.

Important

DBD names in the FROM Dataset can be overridden before being loaded. If the primary DBD name in the FROM Dataset is different from the TO DBD name, the Load - DBD Name Override pop-up panel is displayed.
