Overview of BMC AMI DevX File-AID products

This section provides information about the following topics:

BMC AMI DevX File-AID Common Components

File-AID Common Components is required for any of the File-AID products running on a z/OS mainframe. File-AID Common Components also include the communication technology used to facilitate the interaction between BMC AMI DevX Workbench for Eclipse and BMC AMI DevX Workbench for VS Code components running on a workstation and BMC's File-AID products running on a z/OS mainframe.

BMC AMI DevX File-AID/MVS

File-AID/MVSconsists of two components: File-AID/MVS and File-AID/Batch.

File-AID/MVSis an interactive full-screen product designed to easily access and manipulate VSAM, BDAM, PDS, IAM, CA Panvalet, CA Librarian, and sequential files.

File-AID/Batch consolidates the functions of most standard IBM utilities by running a job and can print a report that includes the statistics of records processed.

BMC AMI DevX File-AID/Data Solutions

File-AID/Data Solutionsis an interactive software product that allows you to use automated and repeatable processes to update information in your data files. It provides functions for converting euro currencies, aging dates for testing, encrypting sensitive data, translating data values, and generating test data.

File-AID/Data Solutionsdate analysis feature simplifies the identification of date fields and reports whether the data is valid or invalid.

BMC AMI DevX File-AID/Related Data XPERT

File-AID/RDXprovides the ability to easily extract and load a complete subset of related MVS and/or Db2 data.

BMC AMI DevX File-AID for Db2

File-AID for Db2is a self-contained Db2 database management and testing tool that lets you create, populate, customize and refresh data in your Db2 database with ease.

BMC AMI DevX File-AID for IMS

File-AID for IMSprovides the ability to easily access and manipulate data within IMS databases.

File-AID for IMS/FLEX is a general-purpose IMS database manipulation tool for use in modifying or reporting on the contents of IMS databases. File-AID for IMS/FLEX extends the capabilities of File-AID for IMS to the MVS batch environment.

Notation rules

Syntax diagrams define primary command syntax.

parameter is either a keyword or a variable.

All KEYWORDs are shown in uppercase characters and must be spelled exactly as shown. You cannot substitute another value. If any part of a KEYWORD is shown in lowercase characters, that part is optional.

Variables are user-specified values and are printed in lowercase italics. For example, dataset-name indicates you are to substitute a value.

Product Architecture

File-AID products are made up of a number of components accessible from either a standard terminal or from Workbench for Eclipse and Workbench for VS Code, an Eclipse-based modernized user interface.

We recommend a single SMP/E instance of File-AID (all FMIDs) to ensure maintenance compatibilities across all FMIDs, particularly File-AID Common Components.

During the SMP/E installation, the majority of the elements for all File-AID products (File-AID/MVS, File-AID/Data Solutions, File-AID for Db2, File-AID for IMS and File-AID/RDX) are installed into the BMC AMI DevX File-AID Common Components FMID. Only a few products specific elements, that allow a product to execute, are included in the individual products FMID.

Installing multiple instances of File-AID requires separate SMP/E zones, resulting in duplicated maintenance. Multiple instances will also require multiple HCI Ports when configuring Workbench for Eclipse and Workbench for VS Code.

Different versions (that is, 23.01, 21.1, and 17.2) cannot be combined in a single HCI configuration.
