Types of Differences
Four types of differences can occur in a compare:
Insert: Indicates data that appears in the test data source but not in the baseline data source.
Update: Indicates a record that appears in both the baseline and test data sources with the same sort order ID and contains one or more fields with different data values.
Move: Indicates identical data that appears in a different locations in the test and baseline data sources.
Delete: Indicates data that appears in the baseline but not in the test data source.
The list below describes the types of differences that can occur for each type of compare:
- Basic Data Compare: Inserts, Updates, and Deletes
- Related Data Compare: Inserts, Updates, and Deletes
- Stored Procedure Compare: Inserts, Moves, and Deletes
- Trigger Compare: Inserts, Moves and Deletes
- Table Structure Compare: Inserts, Updates, and Deletes
- XML Document Compare: Inserts, Moves, Updates (or Changes), and Deletes
- Text Compare: Inserts, Moves, and Deletes
