Upgrading

This topic describes the major functional enhancements in Code Pipeline 22.01 since Code Pipeline 18.02. It also describes how to upgrade from Code Pipeline 18.02 to 22.01.

Before you begin

Perform the steps added in BMC Installer Mainframe Products SMP/E Installation to download the product.

Perform the upgrade first in a test environment and then, when satisfied, push it into production.

Best practices

We recommend the following best practices:

  • Stop all Code Pipeline CM, CI, and CT started tasks on all LPARs before beginning the upgrade in the target environment.
  • Apply the 22.01 upgrade first to a test Code Pipeline system, and test the software including the changes to customized SITE components.
  • Back up the following data sets:
    • <hlq>.AUTHLINK
    • <hlq>.BPWMDJCL
    • <hlq>.BPWMSAMP
    • <hlq>.BPWMUDDL
  • Work with your DBA to create image copies of all tablespaces.

Important

Upgrading from version 18.02 to version 22.01 will require making changes to your Db2 repository. As a result, your repository will no longer be compatible with version 18.02. Once you complete the conversion, you will not be able to revert to version 18.02. While you could restore your 18.02 instance, any work you have done under 22.01, including the change history will be lost, although the Deploys will remain. Therefore, we recommend that you thoroughly test your 22.01 instance before transitioning, and if any issues arise, address them within the 22.01 environment instead of planning to revert. After conversion, start testing with components suitable for promotion to Production without impacting your components.

It's important to note that you do not need to apply all the 18.02 maintenance before upgrading to 22.01, as the maintenance will be automatically included in 22.01 along with the necessary database changes.
