Associating a file extension to an editor

Follow the procedure below to associate a file extension (such as *.cbl) with the BMC-supported editor with which it should be opened (such as the Topaz COBOL Editor). Opening files in unsupported, third-party editors can yield unpredictable behavior and results.

To enable opening of files in a Workbench Editor

  1. From the Window menu, select Preferences. The Preferences dialog box appears.
  2. Select General>Editors>File Associations.
  3. In the File Types section, click Add. The Add File Type dialog appears.
  4. In the File type field, enter the file type (such as *.ABCD) to be added and click OK.
  5. In the Associated editors section, click Add. The Editor Selection dialog box appears.
  6. Select Internal Editors and, from the list of internal editors, select the appropriate Workbench Editor, then click OK.
  7. On the Preferences dialog box, click OK.
