Configuring viewing access

Note

You will be able to configure CICS access only if your site is also licensed for and has installed Abend-AID for CICS.

The following individuals are required to perform the tasks described in this section:

  • Abend-AID/Abend-AID for CICS installer
  • MVS/CICS system programmer
  • VTAM system programmer
  • CMSC administrator

You can configure a viewing server to support viewing access from VTAM, TSO/ISPF, CICS (local or remote), the Abend-AID Web Browser Interface, or any combination of the four methods concurrently. Each method has different configuration requirements external to Abend-AID (for example, VTAM APPLIDs or ISPF panel modifications).

This section describes the steps required to configure viewing access from VTAM, TSO/ISPF, CICS (local or remote), and the Abend-AID Web Browser Interface. Remember that a viewing server can support more than one viewing option; simply perform the steps for each method you require for the viewing server.

Because Distributed Viewing Support (DVS) is optional and requires that you configure at least one of the other viewing access methods first, we recommend that you add DVS after you’ve completed the Abend-AID/Abend-AID for CICS basic installation procedures. After completing these procedures, see Configuring-optional-DVS-with-the-Abend-AID-viewer for the configuration procedure for adding DVS.

Some of the requirements described in this section apply to more than one viewing access method. The following table indicates the viewing access requirements, and to what method they apply. If a requirement supports more than one viewing access method, you need to perform it only once per viewing server. For example, you need to define only one VTAM LU 2 APPLID to support both CICS remote and VTAM viewing access.

Note

  • If you choose VTAM or CICS remote viewing access, you’ll probably need to get your VTAM system programmer involved in setting up the configuration you choose.

If you configure a viewing server for VTAM or CICS remote viewing, have your VTAM system programmer ensure that the cross-domain resource definitions for all VTAM APPLIDs involved are correct. These include the Abend-AID LU 2 and LU 6.2 APPLIDs as well as all CICS APPLIDs for regions from which viewing is to be supported.
  •  If you choose TSO/ISPF or CICS access, plan on involving your MVS system programmer to select a unique MVS subsystem name for the viewing subsystem.
  • IF you configure a viewing server for CICS remote viewing, it also supports VTAM viewing access without any additional configuration.
  • If you want to access File-AID from the Abend-AID Viewer, you must configure TSO/ISPF access.
