Configuring BMC AMI Assistant for a CES instance

BMC AMI Assistant is a GenAI-powered conversational assistant integrated into the BMC AMI Platform. BMC AMI Assistant delivers answers sourced from BMC public documentation, subject-matter-expert knowledge, and your internal content, while clearly showing the references it used. It maintains conversational context across multiple interactions, allowing you to ask follow-up questions without repeating previous details.

Why register a CES service with the BMC AMI Platform?

When you use BMC AMI Assistant through the BMC AMI Platform, you can ask questions about CES. When you register a CES service with the BMC AMI Platform, you can access BMC AMI Assistant directly within CES pages without switching to the BMC AMI Platform. You can access BMC AMI Assistant from any CES page and the chat history is maintained across CES and BMC AMI Platform.

Before you begin

To enable BMC AMI Assistant services in CES, import the BMC AMI Assistant certificate into the Java keystore (cacerts) that is used by CES. If you don't import the certificate, CES cannot connect to BMC AMI Assistant.

Information

Example

Import command:

keytool -import -trustcacerts -alias AmiAsst9e25185 -file "C:\AmiCertImport\bcx-aus-9e25185.bmc.com" -keystore "C:\AmiCertImport\cacerts"

Parameters used in the import command:

  • AmiAsst9e25185: Unique name that identifies the imported certificate
  • C:\AmiCertImport\bcx-aus-9e25185.bmc.com: Path to the AMI Assistant certificate file. You can export the certificate from your browser.
  • C:\AmiCertImport\cacerts: Path to the cacerts file of the JDK used for CES installation

To register a CES service with the BMC AMI Platform

As a CES administrator, follow these steps to register a CES service with the BMC AMI Platform:

  1. Log in to your CES instance and navigate to Administration >  BMC AMI Platform registration.
  2. Enter the following details on the BMC AMI Platform registration page:
    • Service name: Enter a unique service name as one word. For example, enter QAService.
Don't use special characters such as !, @, and _.
    • Service description: Enter your description for the service.
    • Platform URL: Specify the BMC AMI Platform URL. For example, enter https://123.45.67.89:30002.

  3. Click Register.
After you register a CES service, you can view the BMC AMI Assistant chat icon on the top-right corner of a CES page. For more information, see Using BMC AMI Assistant.

When you return to the BMC AMI Platform registration page, it appears in read-only mode because registering a CES service is a one-time process.

Who can access BMC AMI Assistant from CES?

Any user who is logged on to CES can click the BMC AMI Assistant chat icon on a CES page and access it. When a user clicks the chat icon for the first time, the system verifies if the user's email ID is registered with CES. If not, users are prompted to register so that their chats remain private.

Warning
Important

The BMC AMI Assistant chat icon isn't visible to a guest user.

  • If users register their email ID, their chats remain private and they can view their chat history too.
  • If users don't register their email ID with CES, their chat history remains in shared mode and is available to all unregistered users. If users register in future, they lose access to their past chat history (chat history of unregistered users).
