Overview

Supporting both full-function and Fast Path databases, BMC iExtract for IMS quickly and efficiently extracts data from your databases.

iExtract is available both in batch and online. Using read-with-integrity for Fast Path databases, data for a Fast Path database can be extracted while the database is online.

You can use the feature to create output files with a predefined or custom format that contain only the records and segments that you specify. In addition, you can replace segments with segments that contain the modifications that you choose.

The output files can then be used for a wide range of management tasks and application needs, such as:

  • Purging obsolete data
  • Archiving historical data
  • Creating specialized reports
  • Assisting in the restructuring of a database
  • Quickly creating a test database

In most cases, you use iExtract with databases that are closed and are not being updated by another task (including IMS online).

You can use the iExtract to read Fast Path databases that are online. In this case, you make a simple change the JCL so that the data you extract has integrity.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
