Select a standard recovery point

A standard recovery point is a time when the database is deallocated.

Recovery points can occur during the course of normal database management activities (such as after a batch image copy), or you can use RMGR to create recovery points as required.

You can choose recovery to a standard recovery point if you can regularly DBR the database and can afford to lose all data between the reallocation of the database and the point of failure.

If you want to create standard recovery points, you can use the RMGR HPC function to quiesce the databases with a /DBR or /DBD command. You can also use the HPC function to create special Fast Path recovery points (with a simulated /DBD command) that can be recovered with the BMC Recovery utility. You can use the RMGR HPC function if you have a single IMS system or multiple IMS systems in a data sharing environment. For more information see Create-recovery-points.

One way to find all the standard recovery points is to use the RMGR Find Recovery Points function. You can then select one of the recovery points found by the function and create recovery JCL.

  • Batch Interface utility: Specify RECOVERTO=STANDARDTIMESTAMP and provide the timestamp as the value of the TIMESTAMP keyword.
  • Recovery Options panel: Select option 6 (Standard Timestamp).
  • Find Recovery Points function: Select a Std util recovery window.

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
