Select a recovery point
You have several choices about the type of recovery to perform in a disaster recovery (DR).
The type that you select depends on your environment, your preparation, and the amount of data that you can afford to lose. You might be able to recover to the last batch image copies or you might need to recover to the latest point in time possible, losing only those transactions that were in-flight at the time of the failure.
Choosing the type of recovery ahead of time is important so that you can implement correct preparations and plan accurately for DR. You can choose the following types of recovery points:
- The last batch image copy (see Select-the-last-batch-image-copy)
- A standard recovery point (see Select-a-standard-recovery-point)
- The last Log Sync recovery point (see Select-the-last-log-sync-recovery-point)
- The last point-in-time (PIT) change accumulation (CA) (see Select-the-last-PIT-CA-timestamp)
- The DR PIT timestamp (see Select-the-DR-PIT-timestamp)
- Any user-selected point in time (see Select-a-user-selected-point-in-time)
- A Log Analysis recovery window (see Select-a-recovery-point-from-the-Log-Analysis-function)
For all recovery types that you can use for DR, except for recovery to the last batch image copy and recovery to a standard timestamp, you must use the BMC Recovery utility.
After you choose the type of recovery, you specify the recovery point with one of the following methods:
- Use the RECOVERTO keyword as explained in Create-recovery-JCL-with-the-Batch-Interface-utility.
- Use the Recovery Options panel as explained in Create-recovery-JCL-with-the-ISPF-interface.
- For some recovery points, you can use the Find Recovery Points function as explained in Find-standard-recovery-points-with-the-ISPF-interface.
- For some recovery points, you can use the Log Analysis function as explained in Select-a-recovery-point-from-the-Log-Analysis-function.
