Sequential I/O considerations

Application programs which are to have their sequential files repositioned by QUICKSTART during a restart must allow QUICKSTART to control all functions of those files. It is by this activity that QUICKSTART can accurately track the status of the files, including repositioning information, during normal program execution. QUICKSTART can later perform file repositioning with this saved information, should there be a need for a restart at some later time.

Note

Not all files necessarily require “Repositioning”. Only those files which are considered repositionable (permanent, nontemporary, SYSIN/SYSOUT files) by the programmer need be converted, as described herein. Other files can continue to be controlled by COBOL methods, if desired.
