Problem determination


The following information can help with diagnosing and solving problems with the QUICKSTART for MVS product.

Messages and codes

All user abends issued by the QUICKSTART for MVS product are accompanied by error messages, which appear in the JCL output listing. These messages often describe the error in sufficient detail to accurately determine the problem. The Messages contains diagnostic information about the following elements:

  • QUICKSTART-related system abends
  • batch CPUID authorization messages
  • QUICKSTART Conversion Facility (QCF) messages
  • QUICKSTART run-time messages and abend codes

DB2 connection problem diagnosis

If an application does not connect to DB2, or if the Checkpoint Control Table is not properly updated, try adding a //DSNTRACE DD SYSOUT=* card to the JCL. The SYSOUT dataset created will contain a trace of all DB2 connection and Plan activity, including SQLCODEs and DB2 Reason Codes. If you require assistance interpreting the results of this trace, please contact your DBA or BMC Software Product Support.
