Executing under IMAGE COPY PLUS
The most efficient way to use PCP is to execute the Hash Checking technique concurrently with one of the IMAGE COPY PLUS (ICP) image copy functions (Image Copy, Online Image Copy, Incremental Image Copy, or Copy Image Copy).
You can create the image copy, validate the pointers, and collect DL/I and space usage statistics in only slightly more time than it would take for the image copy alone. You do not need to execute the Full Checking technique after the image copy if the hash totals balance.
You must interpret the PCP reports differently when executing under the IMAGE COPY PLUS Online Image Copy function. If all database update activity is suspended (the database is placed in read-only mode), the pointer validation reports accurately reflect the status of the database. If, however, database update activity occurred concurrently with the execution of the Online Image Copy function, PCP could indicate that pointer errors exist in the database when no errors are actually present.
