Creating advanced Impact Rules
This chapter describes how to use variables and pattern matching to create more powerful Rules in BMC II for z/OS.
When you specify data on any of the Selection Criteria or BMC EM/SIM Event Action panels (except where noted), you can specify:
- Constant values (or literals)
- Patterns of strings of data
- Variables
- Combinations of all of the above
Specifying only literals when you create a Rule might limit the Rule applicability to only very specific situations. However, by using variables, combinations of literals and variables, or pattern matching, you can create more powerful and flexible Rules that apply to more general situations.
The following sections describe how to use variables and pattern matching in Rules:
