Understanding buffer usage

The utility dynamically allocates an optimum number of output buffers for image copy data sets based on the physical device and block size used.

All buffers are allocated above the 16 MB line. If you are creating multiple copies of the image copy data set, one set of buffers is allocated and is shared by the various image copies.

In previous versions of the utility, the ICBUF keyword was used to control the buffer pool size. This keyword is still accepted if it is specified with a valid value on a control statement or in an options module, but its value is ignored.

If you explicitly specify a buffer pool size on the output image copy data set DD statement (with the DCB=BUFNO=n parameter), the utility ignores the specification.
