Adding and changing entries

By selecting process 1 (Add), you can add a system, database, or segment entry. By selecting process 2 (Change), you can change the entries. The panels displayed depend on the values you entered on the DPICDS Administration panel for the selection criteria and for the compression and output options.

Table 1 provides the panels displayed based on the selection criteria specified for system, database, or segment entries and the values (Y—Yes or N—No) specified for the compression and output options.

Compression

For compression options, the content of the panel displayed varies according to the selection criteria specified. For system and database entries, the panel displayed allows you to specify one of the following types of compression techniques: Static Huffman, Basic Character, Extended Character, Hardware, or Hybrid. The panel displayed for database entries also allows you to specify a Free Space Segment Size (FSS) for the data set groups in the database (up to ten). If you have a partitioned database, you only specify one FSS value on this panel.

If you selected 1 (Add) for segment entries, the panel displayed allows you to specify one of the following types of compression techniques: Static Huffman, Basic Character, Extended Character, Hardware, Custom Hardware Dictionary, Shared Table or Hybrid. It also allows you to specify a Minimum Segment Length (MSL) or Fixed Pad Size (FPS) for the segment. If you selected 2 (Change) for segment entries, you can specify an additional compression technique, Custom Huffman.

Because of the differences in the panel content for each type of entry, compression options are discussed as three separate tasks. The following tasks are described in this section:
