Specifying selection criteria and a migration process
To select DPICDS registration entries, Shared Tables, or Custom Hardware Dictionaries for the migration, and indicate the type of migration process you want to perform (promote, demote, or copy), complete the following steps:
Selecting option 2 (Promote, Demote and Copy) on the Primary Menu (Using-the-DATA-PACKER-IMS-Primary-Menu) displays the DPICDS Record Migration panel shown in the following figure.

Command ===> _________________________________________________________________You can select registration entries, Shared Tables, or Custom Hardware Dictionaries for migration. If you want to select registration entries, specify the following selection criteria:
- Leave IMSID blank to include all IMS IDs, or specify an asterisk (*) for global system entries. For a database or segment entry, the value defaults to asterisk (*). If you are migrating a system entry, you can specify an asterisk or a valid name.
- Leave Database blank to migrate all databases. Enter a valid database name to migrate a specific database.
- Leave Segment blank to migrate all segments in a specific database or all databases. Enter a valid segment name to migrate a specific segment of the database indicated.
- If you want to select Shared Tables for migration, specify the name of the Shared Table or a portion of a name suffixed with an asterisk.
- If the Shared Table field is blank, you can migrate only registration entries.
- You cannot select both registration entries and Shared Tables; if you specify a name for IMS ID, database, or segment and a Shared Table name, an error message is displayed.
- If you want to select Custom Hardware Dictionaries for migration, specify the name of the Custom Hardware Dictionary or a portion of a name suffixed with an asterisk.
- If the Custom HW Dict field is blank, you can migrate only registration entries.
- You cannot select both registration entries and Custom Hardware Dictionaries; if you specify a name for IMSID, database, or segment and a Custom Hardware Dictionary name, an error message is displayed.
- Select the process you want to perform:
- Type 1 (Promote) to promote registration, Shared Table, or Custom Hardware Dictionary records from STAGE to RUN. You must perform this process so that records, tables, and dictionaries created at the STAGE level during Trial compression can be used to actually compress a database.
- Type 2 (Demote) to demote registration, Shared Table, or Custom Hardware Dictionary records from ARCHIVE to RUN. You can perform this process in a recovery situation.
- Type 3 (Copy) to copy registration, Shared Table or Custom Hardware Dictionary records at the RUN level from one DPICDS to another. You should perform this process if you want to copy records from test to production or vice versa.
- If you select 3 (Copy), indicate the names of the following data sets:
- CDSOUT—the data set name of the DPICDS to which the registration, table, and dictionary records will be copied
- TBLOUT—the data set name of the DPITBL to which the table or dictionary load modules will be copied
Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
