SPACE keyword

Use the SPACE keyword to specify the amount of DASD space to allocate for a new output data set that uses the associated dynamic allocation model.

This keyword can be used for non-SMS data sets or to override the space allocation defined in the DATACLAS (data class) for an SMS data set.

Uses

Optional in predefined models and on MODEL control statements

Syntax

SPACE(value)

Values

Specify one of the following values:

unit,primary,secondary

Specify the unit type to use for allocating the output space, the amount (1-16777215) of primary units to allocate, and the amount (0-16777215) of secondary units to allocate.

For unit, you can specify cylinders (C | CYL), tracks (T | TRK), or a number (1-65535). If you specify a number, its meaning is defined by the AVGREC keyword. If you specify U, K, or M and SMS is active, the utility interprets unit as the average record length. Otherwise, the utility interprets unit as the average block size.

unit,primary

Specify the unit type to use for allocating the output space and the amount (1-16777215) of primary units to allocate.

( )

Blank. Use DATACLAS defaults for SMS data sets; use operating system defaults for non-SMS data sets.
