Stopping a CAS

You can stop (drain and end) a specific CAS or all of the CASs.

After applying maintenance, you must stop all CASs to allow newly created CASs to use the new CAS procedure. You must also stop all CASs as part of an orderly shutdown of MVS before an IPL (see Performing-an-orderly-shutdown-before-IPL).

To stop a CAS

  1. Issue one of the following commands:
    • bcssid CAS STOPcasid

The CAS that is identified by casid is stopped.

    • bcssid CAS STOP ALL

All of the CASs are stopped. When you stop all CASs, the CAS address space ends, and the CAS is in an ENDED state (see Displaying-the-status-of-a-CAS).

  2. Check the system log to ensure that the command has been completed successfully. If successful, BCSS responds with messages for each CAS that has stopped.
