Database structure


Throughout the subsequent diagrams, the following naming conventions and standards have been used:

  • SEG is a segment from another database record.
  • SEGmn designates a segment of type m as shown on the hierarchical structure diagram which follows. n indicates that it is the nth occurrence of that segment type within the database record.
  • FS signifies that the area is free space.
  • Arrows signify pointers.

The following figure shows the hierarchical structure that will be used as an example.
