Overview of the BMC AMI Pointer Checker for IMS features

Pointer Checker

 is a versatile and efficient tool for managing DL/I databases. It replaces the functions of the following utilities offered in the IMS Database Tools (DBT) Version 2.0 Space Management Feature:

  • HD Pointer Checker
  • HD Tuning Aid
  • HDAM Physical Sequence Sort/Reload (PSSR)
  • Space Monitor
  • DB Historical Data Analyzer
  • DB Segment Restructure

Pointer Checker offers the following features not available with the DBT Space Management Feature:

  • Pointer checking concurrent with image copy or recovery
  • High-performance stand-alone pointer checking
  • Simple JCL and control statements
  • Concise reports
  • Interactive report viewing, option setting, and JCL generation
  • Dynamic allocation of most data sets needed
  • The interactive Database Zap utility

Pointer Checker consists of several components designed for high performance, flexibility, and ease-of-use:

  • The validation features
  • The statistical/monitoring features
  • The analysis/repair features
  • The special-purpose utilities
  • Other components

Note

The image copies discussed in this section can be created with the BMC IMAGE COPY PLUS product, the IMS Database Image Copy utility, or the IMS Online Image Copy utility. The database recoveries discussed in this section are performed only by the BMC RECOVERY PLUS for IMS product.
