How BMC AMI Defender for IMS works

BMC Automated Mainframe Intelligence (BMC AMI) solutions provide the analytics data and intelligence that you can use with technologies such as IT operation analytics (ITOA) as well as security information and event management (SIEM) software from companies such as Splunk.

How BMC AMI Defender for IMS works

BMC AMI Defender for IMS (Defender for IMS) can obtain real-time information from the IMS log stream, without waiting for each IMS OLDS log data file to be finalized and closed:

  1. Defender for IMS watches the log data created in the IMS control region and copies information of interest (based on your data-filter setup) to the exchange buffers to be processed by a BMC Defender server.
  2. The BMC Defender server processes and formats the selected information.
  3. The server forwards the formatted data via TCP/IP to the required analytic engine, or to an intermediate data set that you select.

Benefits of Defender for IMS

Defender for IMS has multiple benefits as described below:

  • Exploit the value of IMS data within your analytics platforms without impacting the performance of your IMS environment.
  • Get a clearer view of trends and patterns to learn deeper insights about your operations.
  • Drastically lower ingestion-based license charges by using just the information you need.
  • Make better business decisions to create new revenue streams and prevent problems.
