Product features

The following features of the BMC AMI Datastream for IMS product make it extremely useful to you.

  • Real-time IMS analytics data

Traditional solutions use near-real-time data, meaning that the data is extracted after the IMS log switch. On a very busy system, the log switch can occur every couple of minutes, but during an off shift the log switch may occur every 30 minutes (or longer). If a problem occurs and you are not aware of it for 30 minutes or longer, the problem might spiral out of control. You need real-time data to drive real-time decisions.

  • Intelligent filtering

Intelligent filtering allows subsets of log record data (individual field selection) that decreases the amount of data sent on to an analytics engine. BMC AMI Datastream for IMS provides both filtering and extraction selection components. Because many analytics engines charge by the amount of data ingested, limiting the amount of data can greatly reduce licensing costs. In addition, by creating exception-based capture, potential CPU resource usage is also kept at a minimum.

  • Secure data extraction

BMC AMI Datastream for IMS is less risky because it does not use the IMS log exit for data filtering. Because multiple vendors could be using this same exit, there could be potential collusions and risk, affecting IMS and IMS performance.

  • Virtually no overhead

BMC AMI Datastream for IMS avoids the log exit routines and dramatically simplifies operations and improves storage usage and performance. Because BMC AMI Datastream for IMS does not use the IMS log exit, it avoids the associated performance issues.

  • Security alerts

BMC AMI Datastream for IMS delivers up-to-the-second IMS security alerts to BMC AMI Command Center for Security or any name-brand Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) product. With BMC AMI Datastream for IMS, security administrators now have visibility that includes a host of user events centered around attempts to view or access the sensitive data found in your IMS environment.

  • Compliance auditing

BMC AMI Datastream for IMS provides proper audit trails and standards-based archiving to adhere to PCI DSS, HIPAA, GDPR, GLBA, SOX, IRS Pub. 1075 or other industry standards. The up-to-the-second alerting and compliance auditing provided by BMC AMI Datastream for IMS will bolster your cross-platform cyber defense. Additionally, BMC AMI Datastream for IMS provides the following data access auditing capability:

    • Privileged user monitoring
    • Auditing invalid logical access attempts, as well as on all logons/logoffs
    • Auditing of any attempt to add transactional data into message buffers
  • IMS Connect Data

IMS Connect generates statistical information that can be used for security tracking, audit purposes or other analytics processing. BMC AMI Datastream for IMS collects, extracts and formats IMS Connect information enabling expanded security and analytical analysis.

  • Track IMS data reads

BMC AMI Datastream for IMS can collect information on IMS read operations and combine the selection and extraction of this information with information on IMS update, insert and delete actions.

  • Integration with BMC AMI Ops Monitor for IMS

BMC AMI Datastream for IMS integrates with BMC AMI Ops Monitor for IMS capabilities by capturing x’FA’ and x’F9’ log records.
