Select a recovery point


You have several choices about the type of recovery to perform in a disaster recovery (DR).

The type that you select depends on your environment, your preparation, and the amount of data that you can afford to lose. You might be able to recover to the last batch image copies or you might need to recover to the latest point in time possible, losing only those transactions that were in-flight at the time of the failure.

Choosing the type of recovery ahead of time is important so that you can implement correct preparations and plan accurately for DR. You can choose the following types of recovery points:

Recovery to current is not recommended for DR because it may cause data integrity problems. Despite the fact that the RECONs reflect an IMS shutdown, the last SLDS may contain incomplete database updates.

For all recovery types that you can use for DR, except for recovery to the last batch image copy and recovery to a standard timestamp, you must use the BMC Recovery utility.
