Hardware-assisted and software-assisted Snapshot Copy

The Snapshot Copy function uses the 

SNAPSHOT UPGRADE FEATURE for IMS

 component to create batch image copies while database updates are in progress.

SUF is provided at no additional charge with the Image Copy utility. SNAPSHOT UPGRADE FEATURE for IMS is also provided with the EXTENDED BUFFER MANAGER for IMS product.

If the database is stored on a supported intelligent storage device, the Snapshot Copy function uses SUF to exploit the technology of the device in a hardware-assisted process. If the database is not on a qualified device, the Snapshot Copy function uses the software cache in a software-assisted process.
