Overview of BCF component tasks
IMS DBAs, IMS system programmers, and IMS application programmers can be involved in installing, implementing, using, and maintaining BCF.
The following table surveys the tasks these people can perform and indicates the location of complete information about these tasks.
BCF component tasks
Task | Description | Reference |
---|---|---|
Install AR/CTL, and process CPU ID passwords |
| |
Configure AR/CTL | Use the AR/CTL Installation System to configure AR/CTL. | |
Understand the BCF component | You should understand BCF processing and how BCF can change your operational procedures. | |
Get started with BCF | You must use BCF components to set up the product to run in your environment; this setup includes providing access to the BCF component execution modules so that they are available during the execution of the job step. | |
Evaluate and set BCF options | BCF provides many options to control its processing. Although the initial default values are usually acceptable, you should evaluate whether they are appropriate in your own environment. If you determine that the initial default option values are not appropriate for the installation, IMS system, or job step, or execution, you can reset the values. | |
Prepare for dynamic allocation of data sets | BCF dynamically allocates log data sets under several circumstances. You must provide the information necessary for BCF to allocate the logs successfully. | |
Operate with BCF | Application program job steps that execute with BCF usually require no monitoring or manual intervention. However, special circumstances may require you to work with BCF execution control records and batch utilities. | |
Use BCF statistics | BCF collects and reports many statistics about batch job steps. You can use the statistics for performance measurement, capacity planning, tuning, and other tasks. | |
Use BCF utilities | BCF provides batch utilities for several purposes. You may want to consider using these utilities as needed. |
