Constructing data set name skeletons

This section describes how to construct a data set name skeleton to use instead of the actual data set name when you set up the dynamic allocation record. If you provide a data set name skeleton, AR/CTL constructs the data set names from the provided skeleton when dynamic allocation of a data set is required.

When AR/CTL processes the skeleton, it replaces the substitution keywords with the appropriate values. It stops processing the skeleton when it has substituted the current values for all keywords. If the length of the constructed data set name is greater than 44 characters, AR/CTL issues a user abend during initialization of the job step execution.
