How SmartSwitch works

SmartSwitch dynamically switches jobs from UNLOAD PLUS to run on BMC AMI Unload based on rules that you create in a rules table using the BMC AMI Command Center for Db2 product.

To enable SmartSwitch, you need to perform the following tasks:

  1. Making-SmartSwitch-available
  2. (Recommended) Configuring-parameters
  3. Setting-up-a-SmartSwitch-rules-table
  4. Adding-a-SmartSwitch-view

When you have performed these tasks, you add rules to a rules table. For more information, see Managing-SmartSwitch-rules.

SmartSwitch then performs the following tasks:

  1. Sorts the rules according to their level of restrictiveness

Rule sorting is important, because it determines the order in which SmartSwitch checks jobs against the rules. For more information, see Rule-sorting.

  2. Checks a job against the rules in the rules table in descending order, and determines whether to switch the job to BMC AMI Unload

    For more information, see Rule-checking.

For more information about switching, see How-the-switch-occurs.
