Revalidating mirrored object sets

Before you generate disaster recovery JCL, you should revalidate object sets in batch mode either through the online interface or by running the ARMBGPV batch revalidation program.

The online method is described in the following sections. For more information about using ARMBGPV, see the BMC AMI Recovery Manager for Db2 documentation.

Warning

Important

With the introduction of dynamic object sets in BMC AMI Recovery Manager version 9.2.00, revalidation no longer refers to the process of running the object set definitions again to populate the object set with an updated list of objects based on the current system. This type of revalidation is no longer needed with dynamic object sets. Revalidation now refers to checking the recoverability of the objects in the object set.

BMC AMI Recovery Manager does not revalidate catalog and directory resources.

The revalidation procedure automatically verifies the mirroring status of the system resources and reports mirroring exceptions when it revalidates a object set. System resources are revalidated once per revalidation job, regardless of how many object sets are being revalidated. Before generating disaster recovery JCL, you should revalidate mirrored object sets to check the recoverability of objects and to verify mirroring status.

Warning

Important

During JCL generation for disaster recovery, when BMC AMI Recovery Manager generates recovery JCL for any object set that contains objects that cannot be verified as being actively mirrored, it issues the following message:

BMC80373W creator.name NOT MIRRORED - SWITCHING TO NON-MIRRORED RECOVERY

To revalidate mirrored object sets

  1. From the main menu, select Option 1, Application object sets to display the Object set List panel.
  2. Enter an object set name or wildcard pattern to display a list of object sets to revalidate.
  3. Type R next to a single object set (or RA to report on all displayed object sets). The Batch Object Set Report Options panel is displayed.

    Warning

    Important

The Mirror System option on this panel generates the REVALIDATE MIRROR SYSTEM syntax of ARMBGPV. You do not need to specify it if you are revalidating a mirrored object set because the mirrored system resources are automatically revalidated when a mirrored object set is revalidated. You can use this option if you want to revalidate mirrored system resources at the same time you are revalidating a nonmirrored object set or if you have no mirrored object sets at all (just a mirrored subsystem).

The second Batch Object Set Report Options panel is displayed.

  6. On the JCL specification panel, type a data set name and press Enter to generate the revalidation job and submit the job.Mirroring exceptions for subsystem resources are written to the ARMXCEPT file. If mirroring exceptions are found for application data sets, information messages are written to ARMPRINT.

    Warning

    Important

DEFINE NO objects are identified as mirroring exceptions, but they are given a status of DEFER, which does not interfere with mirror recovery.
