Converting a FAT16 or FAT32 partition to NTFS
If you installed BMC Performance Predictor for Mainframes on a partition that is not NTFS but still want to gain the benefits of system-level compression, you can convert the partition to NTFS. However, you should check with your system administrator before converting any drive to NTFS in case you have reasons for not converting a particular partition to NTFS, for example with a boot partition.
Run the command line program called CONVERT.EXE as follows:
- Open a command prompt and type
convert <drive letter> /fs:ntfs
Example: convert d: /fs:ntfs
You might need to restart the system for the conversion process to take place. If, for whatever reason, the conversion fails, Windows reverts the drive back to the
original file system. Backing up the drive before you convert is highly recommended. - After the drive is converted to NTFS, follow the preceding steps for compressing the Namespace directories.
Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
