About monitor services

Monitors are services that collect data measurements about resource usage or workload performance and detect warning conditions in response to a user request.

Each monitor service is a timer-driven monitor that:

  • Measures resource or workload status, activity count, or usage percentage
  • Calculates a ratio of resource usage over time
  • Detects warning conditions and issues messages

The measurement obtained at each sampling interval is compared to the user-defined threshold for that request. The threshold comparison detects conditions for which user-defined warning messages can be issued. The measurements are stored online so that a plot of the recent history of a monitor request can be viewed at any time. Optional service parameters narrow the scope of a single request and allow several requests for the same monitor service to be active concurrently.
