Data Collector commands

BMC AMI Apptune for Db2 and SQL Performance for DB2 provide commands that you can use to dynamically change the active collection settings and reset the collection interval.

All of these commands cause the reduction table to be written to the LOGSET log file and start a new interval.

Command

Description

APPON

Starts data collection after the DOM agent (BMC DB2 Online Monitor Common Infrastructure agent) is started (when data collection is not started automatically) or after data collection has been stopped by an APPOFF command.

APPOFF

Stops data collection. The product attempts to perform data reduction to free up storage space. The storage is not freed up if it is in use when the APPOFF command is issued, but is reused the next time data reduction takes place.

Important

We recommend that you use the APPOFF command to stop data collection before you stop Db2. This ensures that the product unloads the reduction table and writes out the data. Failure to do so might cause abends in the Data Collector.

APPFILT

Dynamically apply (or reapply) a filter option set for a Db2 subsystem. APPFILT is used to dynamically change the collection options for a Db2 subsystem without stopping the Data Collector.

DOMSTART

Dynamically starts the DOM agent in the DBC which starts data collection based on values set in the associated DOMPLEX option. For more details, see DOMSTART. 1

DOMSTOP

Dynamically stops the DOM agent in the DBC which stops data collection. For more details, see DOMSTOP. 1

DOMREFRESH

Refreshes (stop and restart) the DOM agent. For more details, see DOMREFRESH. 1

 1. Can only be issued as a console command.

See the BMC AMI Apptune for Db2 documentation for a complete explanation of the Apptune commands, or use online Help (type HELP commandName on the Command line of any product panel, and press Enter).

The following examples illustrate some of the ways you can use the APP* commands to modify your collection settings. These examples show the command syntax to use when you issue the commands from the operator console. The advantage of this method is that the commands are recorded in the job log for future reference.

Example
  • To start collecting data with the filter options set associated with the Db2 subsystem, issue the following command:

    / DCssid APPON DB2ssid

    DCssid

Data Collector ID—identifies the Data Collector

    DB2ssid

    DB2 Sub System ID—identifies the DB2 subsystem

  • To activate a filter option set, issue the following command:

    /DCssid APPFILT DB2ssid filterName

  • To modify the value of an active filter option set, issue the following command:

    /DCssid APPFILT DB2ssid filterName :

Warning

Be very careful when using filter option sets. When previously collected data is reported, you need to know which filter option sets (if any) were in effect at the time the data was collected. If you change the collection options frequently and view data together that was collected using different filters, the data might not be meaningful.

For more information, see the online Help for the filter options set, DOMPLEX option set panels, and the APP* commands.
