Tuning to improve memory use

To improve memory usage, consider the following information:

  • Specifying a value greater than 0 for SORTNUM (with no SORTWK data sets specified in the JCL) allows CHECK PLUS to perform the maximum multitasking of sort processes based on available memory. Specifying this value tells CHECK PLUS that BMCSORT will control sort work allocations, which should eliminate sort work constraints.
  • The degree of multitasking during sort processing depends on the number of CPUs, the SMAX or MAXTASKS option value, the number of SORTWK data sets, and available memory. You might be able to improve memory usage by adjusting the SMAX or MAXTASKS option value or the number of SORTWK data sets.
