Tuning for performance

The CHECK PLUS for DB2 product provides several options that you can use to influence its performance. Some options affect the performance of the entire product; others influence processing for specific functions. This section explains how these options affect the performance of CHECK PLUS.

Setting installation options for optimal performance

The installation option values that are shipped with CHECK PLUS usually provide optimal performance, but we sometimes recommend modifying these values, or their corresponding command option values, as described in this section.

Important

If you modify these options after installation, you must rerun the installation job for these modifications to take effect.

Comments

DRNDELAY and DRNRETRY

None

Adjust these options based on how long you are willing to wait for a successful drain.

(0K,0K)

This value is the default value. We recommend that you do not change this value except under instructions from BMC Support.

PROB

If you can make sure that all exits that CHECK PLUS calls can run in problem states, specify this value to obtain significant savings in CPU overhead.

20

The multiplier that CHECK PLUS applies to the value of the WBUFFS option value is 32 KB. For WBUFFS, we recommend a value of 20 for this option (the value that is shipped with CHECK PLUS).

Specifying command options for optimal performance

It describes command option recommendations to obtain optimal performance when running CHECK PLUS. For a complete description of the CHECK command options and values, see CHECK-command-syntax.

The following table lists CHECK PLUS command options that correspond to the installation options listed. We recommend that you specify the CHECK command options that are listed in the following table if they are not already specified in the installation options.
