Verifying recoverability


You can run the Recoverability report to validate the recoverability of an object set or a catalog. The report identifies any objects that are not recoverable. For example, the report identifies specific data sets that do not have available copies. You should run the Recoverability report as part of your routine disaster recovery preparations.

You can run the Recoverability report for either an object set or a catalog.

Note

The recoverability information is obtained from the most recent execution of the ARMBGPV program for the selected recovery point. Clicking UpdateRecoverabilityData_24.pngrefreshes the recoverability information. For more information, see Refreshing-the-recoverability-information.

To run the Recoverability report for an object set

New BMC Workbench console
  1. In the Recovery Management perspective, click the Add View NW_plus_circle_o.png menu arrow, and then select Add Recoverability Report.
  2. Select Object Recoverability.
  3. In the Definition tab, complete the following fields:

     

    Field

    Description

    Report Name

    Enter a name for the report.

    DB2 Connection

    Select a DB2 connection from your list of favorites. If necessary, you can add a connection. See Connecting-to-DB2-subsystems.

    Object Set

    Navigate to and select an object set.

    Recovery Point

    Select any of the following recovery points for the object set:

    • To Current recovers to the current time stamp.
    • To Copy recovers to the last incremental copy.
    • To Full copy recovers to the last full copy.
    • To Quiesce recovers to the last quiesce point.
    • To Log Mark recovers to a log mark that you defined in the Log Master for DB2 product. If you select this option, you must also enter the log mark name.
  4. Click Generate Report NW_run.png
    The Recoverability report tab is displayed. See Recoverability report.
Classic BMC Workbench console
  1. In the Recovery Management perspective, click Add View Add-16.png and select Add Recoverability Report.
  2. Select Object Recoverability.
  3. In the Definition tab, complete the following fields:

     

    Field

    Description

    Name

    Enter a name for the report.

    DB2 Connection

    Select a DB2 connection from your list of favorites. If necessary, you can add a connection. See Connecting-to-DB2-subsystems.

    Object Set

    Navigate to and select an object set.

    Recovery Point

    Select any of the following recovery points for the object set:

    • To Current recovers to the current time stamp.
    • To Copy recovers to the last incremental copy.
    • To Full copy recovers to the last full copy.
    • To Quiesce recovers to the last quiesce point.
    • To Log Mark recovers to a log mark that you defined in the Log Master for DB2 product. If you select this option, you must also enter the log mark name.
  4. Click Run execute-24.png
    The Recoverability report tab is displayed. See Recoverability report.

To run the Recoverability report for a catalog

New BMC Workbench console
  1. In the Recovery Management perspective, click the Add View NW_plus_circle_o.png menu arrow, and then select Add Recoverability Report.
  2. Select Catalog Recoverability.
  3. In the Definition tab, complete the following fields.

     

    Field

    Description

    Report Name

    Enter a name for the report.

    DB2 Connection

    Select a DB2 connection from your list of favorites. If necessary, you can add a connection. See Connecting-to-DB2-subsystems.

    Recovery Site

    Select the location of the recovery:

    • Local (which is typically the in-house system)
    • Disaster Recovery (which is typically an offsite or emergency backup location)
  4. Click Generate Report NW_run.png
    The Recoverability report tab is displayed.

    The Recoverability report tab displays the count of unrecoverable objects and why they cannot be recovered. Clicking View Details lists unrecoverable objects in the Details tab.
