+SVRSPECIAL

The +SVRSPECIAL parameter controls special server processing and is designed to boost throughput.

+SVRSPECIAL(YES) starts an additional server (not one limited by the number of servers specified with MAXSERVERS) exclusively for image copies after the first reorganization has completed.

The reorganization process is not complete until the copy is complete. Using a special server allows the copies to be processed as early as possible, concurrent with reorganizations. This reduces overall reorganization time and the number of application changes that need to be gathered and applied before the reorganizations is complete. Using +SVRSPECIAL gives a significant performance improvement when many reorganizations are performed in one job or many application changes are happening during the product run.

The values are defined as follows:

YES or Y

(Default) Initiates a special copy server job right after the first reorganization has completed

NO or N

Does not initiate a special copy server job. Use a regular server for the copy after all other reorganization servers have completed.

EXTERNAL or E

Same as YES

Initiates a special copy server job immediately after the first reorganization has completed. The server will be a separate job.

INTERNAL or I

Initiates a special copy server job immediately after the first reorganization has completed; but run this server internally within the primary job. A separate job is not submitted.

Tip

+SVRSPECIAL(INTERNAL) uses available sub-tasks to process copies and is suitable for typical jobs.

+SVRSPECIAL(YES) or EXTERNAL is suitable for jobs with many large data sets to be copied, where all sub-tasks are busy processing reorganizations.
