Working with recovery options

BMC AMI Recovery Manager enables you to select and change recovery options while preparing to recover the current object set.

You can set recovery options (including post-recovery copy options) at the subsystem and object set levels. Option validity varies according to your choice of recover utility and its version.

For performance reasons, you should use the ARMBGRP batch program to set options for object sets containing more than a few hundred objects.

BMC AMI Recovery Manager provides a set of default recovery option values that apply to all object sets, spaces, and indexes for all of the Db2 subsystems that are specified at installation. After installing BMC AMI Recovery Manager, you can change any of the recovery values for a particular subsystem through option 4. Subsystem options on the Main Menu. If you do not change values by object set, the subsystem values will be used in the recovery JCL.

Important

BMC AMI Recovery Manager maintains a single set of subsystem options; therefore, the subsystem options apply to all members of a data-sharing object set.

If you change a value at the object set level, that change overrides the corresponding subsystem value and is applied to all objects in the target object set. For more information, see BMC-AMI-Recovery-Manager-backup-and-recovery-options. 

The Lvl column indicates the level at which a utility option is set for the particular object set or object that you are viewing. Options can be set at the object set level (G), system level (S) (recommended), or BMC AMI Recovery Manager default level (blank).

When you change an option on this panel, the level for that option changes to S or G (depending on whether you are modifying options for the system or an object set).

You can remove an option that is set at the level that you are viewing. For example, if you are viewing an object set, you can remove G-level options. To remove an option, enter a blank space in the option field. The option then reverts to its most recent setting. For example, removing a G-level setting causes the option to revert to either the system-level or BMC AMI Recovery Manager-level setting, depending on which was used most recently for that object set.
