Revalidating and reporting on object sets in batch

Use the ARMBGPV program to revalidate the recoverability of an object set in batch.

You can optionally request detailed object set-specific printed reports, as follows:

  • Object recoverability
  • Recovery resources that are required by the object set
  • Tape volumes that are needed for recovery
  • Archived data sets that are required for recovery

You can also perform the following tasks:

  • Specify whether the reports are for the local site or a recovery site
  • Specify the recovery point for analysis

When you use the batch method, you can routinely revalidate several object sets concurrently or just one object set.

You can generate printed batch object set revalidation reports by using the ARMBGPV program in the following ways:

  • Use the R (report) or the RA (report all) option in the Object Set List panel when you want to generate JCL for the revalidation reports. R provides a report for the selected object sets only; RA provides a report for all object sets that are listed on the panel.
  • To automatically generate the JCL for the revalidation reports, on the Object Set Edit panel, select 3. Batch report.

When selecting to run batch object set revalidation, you must supply the data set names in which the output JCL is to be placed and job card information for that JCL. Both items can include symbolic variables. For more information, see Output-data-sets-job-cards-and-symbolic-variables.
