BMC AMI Recovery Manager backup and recovery options

The utility options that you need to generate JCL for object backup or recovery are determined by your utility choices and your recovery strategy.

The utility options are also affected by whether you specify backup and recovery options for use globally, for use at the object set level, or some combination of these. Because those options can be specified in different ways, BMC AMI Recovery Manager uses rules of precedence to select the appropriate option if conflicting instructions are provided during job preparation.

Option specifications can exist in three different ways. BMC AMI Recovery Manager provides configuration options that are established during installation that apply across all subsystems. Additionally, you can specify options by subsystem or data sharing object set, and by object set. This method allows up to three specifications for the same option to exist concurrently.

The rules (shown in the Recommendation-for-backup-and-recovery-options) that determine which option specification is used for an object are as follows:

  • When you specify one or more options for an object set, your choices apply to all objects in the object set. If you do not specify a particular option for the object set, the value of that option defaults to the value that applies to the subsystem.
  • When you specify one or more options for the entire Db2 subsystem or data sharing object set, your choices apply to all object sets and all objects except where corresponding options have already been specified by the object set. If you do not specify an option at the subsystem or data sharing object set level, the installed default applies (except in those cases already mentioned). Important

You can view the value in effect for a particular option at a particular level (that is, with any overrides from levels with higher precedence already applied) only when you browse the options at the level of interest. When you select Update, you see only those values that have been set at that level.
