Exporting and migrating object sets using the online interface

BMC AMI Recovery Manager

enables you to convert object set definitions into CREATE OBJECT SET syntax and write them to a specified data set. You can then either keep the data set as a backup or use it to migrate the converted definitions to another Db2 subsystem.

Exporting and migrating object set definitions involves the following steps:

  1. Use the online interface to prepare ARMBGRP syntax and JCL. For more information, see Exporting and migrating object sets.
  2. Execute the ARMBGRP batch program. For more information, see ARMBGRP—Object set creation and maintenance.

You can now perform an online recovery health check from the Object Set List Panel. From the Object Set List panel (ARMGP001), select option H to display the new ARMGH001 panel. From this panel, you can verify whether you can recover from the object set using recoverability options such as Unrecoverable Events, Archive Log availability, and Image Copy Frequency.

Exporting and migrating object sets

Use the following procedure and the online interface to export and migrate object sets.

Before you begin

The following software must be installed on all target subsystems:

  • BMC AMI Recovery Manager
  • A version of Db2 that BMC AMI Recovery Manager supports

To export and migrate object sets using the online interface

  1. From the BMC AMI Recovery for Db2 Main Menu, select 1. Appl object sets, and enter an object set name or wildcard pattern to display one or more object sets.
  2. On the Object Set List panel, select the object sets whose definitions you want to export, and press Enter:

    • To select a specific object set or object sets, type X next to each one.
    • To export all object sets to the export file, type XA.

BMC AMI Recovery Manager generates ARMBGRP EXPORT JCL for the specified object sets.

  3. On the Batch Object Set Export/Migrate JCL Generation panel, select one or more target SSIDs for the export:

    • Select one of the displayed options to export to all SSIDs on the LPAR, the currently active SSIDs, or specific SSIDs that you will select.
    • If you chose to select specific SSIDs (option 3), select them from the displayed list, and specify the DD card to which BMC AMI Recovery Manager should write the exported object set definitions.

      Important

The specified SSIDs must be active. Do not specify an SSID that is the same as the SSID for the currently connected subsystem. BMC AMI Recovery Manager eliminates duplicate SSIDs.

    • Press Enter.
