Managing the BMC AMI Utility Management exceptions settings


You can set exceptions to the utility processing criteria that you defined in the Criteria table. For example, an exception might specify that the process is performed only on specific groups of indexes, table spaces, and applications; or that the process not be performed when certain conditions exist. Use the following procedures to perform the following tasks on the Exceptions table:

To add an exception

  1. In the Product Tools perspective, select or add a BMC AMI Utility Management view.
  2. In the Exceptions tab, click Add exception NW_plus_circle_o.png
  3. In the BMC AMI Utility Management Exception dialog box, complete the following fields:

    Field

    Description

    Type

    Select one of the following types:

    • Applications
    • Table spaces
    • Indexes

    Name pattern

    Enter a name pattern for the group of objects or applications for which you want to create an exception. You can use the * or % wildcard, or both.

    Partition

    Enter a partition number or specify 0 for all partitions.

    Comment

    Enter a comment describing the exception.

  4. Select the Exceptions tab.
  5. (Optional) To set an expiration time, select the Expiration time check box and enter the expiration date and time.
  6. (Optional) To set an expiration counter, select the Expiration counter check box and enter the number of times to execute this exception.
  7. Select the rule type for this exception for a utility or utilities.You can tell BMC AMI Utility Manager to force or exclude processing by the designated utilities of objects that match the conditions in the WHERE clause.

    Tip

    Hovering over a field lets you view a description.

  8. Select the appropriate check box to instruct BMC AMI Utility Manager to apply or ignore the exception for that utility.
  9. Enter a valid WHERE clause for the exception.BMC AMI Utility Manager uses the BMC AMI Utilities SQL language for WHERE clauses. For more information, see BMC AMI Utilities SQL language.

    Important

    BMC AMI Command Center does not validate the WHERE clause.

  10. Click OK .
    NW_plus_circle_green.png is displayed next to each added exception.
  11. Click Save Changes NW_floppy.png to save all the changes to the BMC AMI Utility Management view.

To edit exceptions

  1. In the Product Tools perspective, select a BMC AMI Utility Management view.
  2. In the Exceptions table, select an exception that you want to edit and click Edit exception NW_pencil_adapt.png.
    The exception that you are editing is displayed at the top of the dialog box. 
  3. In the Edit BMC AMI Utility Management Exception dialog box, edit the values in the General and Exceptions tabs.
  4. (Optional) Edit additional exceptions using the Previous exception NW_arrow_up_circle.pngand Next exception NW_arrow_down_circle.pngarrows to navigate to another exception.
  5. When you have completed your edits, click OK
    NW_pencil_adapt_teal.png is displayed next to each edited exception.
  6. To verify the edited exceptions, you can reset the changes, by selecting one or more edited exceptions and clicking NW_refresh.png.
  7. (Optional) You can now edit the Criteria, Schedules, and Durations settings.
  8. Click NW_floppy.png to save all the changes to the BMC AMI Utility Management view.

    Important

    Next time that you select an edited exception, the Last update field will show the user ID and timestamp of the last update to the exception.

To delete exceptions

  1. In the Product Tools perspective, select a BMC AMI Utility Management view.
  2. In the Exceptions table, select one or more exceptions for deletion.
  3. Click Delete exceptions NW_minus_circle_o.png.
    NW_minus_circle_red.png is displayed next to each exception that you selected to delete.
  4. Verify the exceptions that you selected to delete, you can undo the deletions, by selecting one or more selected exceptions and clicking NW_refresh.png.
  5. Click NW_floppy.png to save the changes to the BMC AMI Utility Management view.

To deactivate exceptions

  1. In the Product Tools perspective, select a BMC AMI Utility Management view.
  2. In the Exceptions table, select an exception that you want to deactivate and click Edit exception NW_pencil_adapt.png.
  3. In the Edit BMC AMI Utility Management Exception dialog box, select the Exceptions tab.
  4. Clear the Active check box.
  5. (Optional) Deactivate additional exceptions using the Previous exception NW_arrow_up_circle.pngand Next exception NW_arrow_down_circle.pngarrows to navigate to another exception.
  6. When you have completed your edits, click OK
    NW_pencil_adapt_teal.png is displayed next to each edited exception.
  7. Verify the deactivated exceptions, you can reset the changes, by selecting one or more deactivated exceptions and clicking NW_refresh.png.
  8. Click Save Changes NW_floppy.png to save all the changes to the BMC AMI Utility Management view.

To set expiration criteria

  1. In the Product Tools perspective, select a BMC AMI Utility Management view.
  2. In the Exceptions table, select an exception that you want to deactivate and click Edit exception NW_pencil_adapt.png.
  3. In the Edit BMC AMI Utility Management Exception dialog box, select the Exceptions tab.
  4. (Optional) To set an expiration time, select the Expiration time check box and enter the expiration date and time.
  5. (Optional) To set an expiration counter, select the Expiration counter check box and enter the number of times to execute this exception.
  6. (Optional) Set additional expiration criteria using the Previous exception NW_arrow_up_circle.png and Next exception NW_arrow_down_circle.pngarrows to navigate to another exception.
  7. When you have completed your edits, click OK
    NW_pencil_adapt_teal.png is displayed next to each edited exception.
  8. Verify the edited exceptions, you can reset the changes, by selecting one or more edited exceptions and clicking NW_refresh.png.
  9. Click Save Changes NW_floppy.png to save all the changes to the BMC AMI Utility Management view.

 

Tip: For faster searching, add an asterisk to the end of your partial query. Example: cert*
