Comparing statements

Use the following procedure to compare Explain results within the same tuning session.

Before you begin

Create one or more What-If statements, as instructed in Creating-a-What-If-scenario.

Note

The Compare function is not available until you create at least one What-If scenario.

To compare statements

New console
  1. In the Performance perspective, click NW_compare_statement.png to open the Compare dialog.
  2. In the Compare dialog, from the statement list on the left, select the first statement for comparison.
  3. From the statement list in the comparison dialog on the right, select a second statement for comparison.

    Note

The selected What-If statement is initially displayed in the comparison dialog on the right, and the Performance perspective's tabs show information about that statement.

  4. Click any step node of the Explain trees to compare the attributes of the selected node. The results pane shows detailed information for the selected nodes in the trees.

Explain trees of both statements are displayed side-by-side, and in the results pane, a table compares attributes of the two statements. In each row, the first column displays the attribute name, the second column displays the value of the node in the first statement (left tree), and the third column shows the value of the second statement (right tree).
