Overview

The

BMC AMI Catalog Manager for Db2

product provides an efficient gateway to Db2 catalog information. Using an interface based on the Interactive System Productivity Facility (ISPF),

Catalog Manager

provides interactive access to catalog information and application data with simple-to-use menus, panels, and online Help.

Using Catalog Manager, you interact with the catalog by performing actions on specific objects. You do not need to have complete knowledge of Db2 structures or Structured Query Language (SQL) syntax because Catalog Manager maintains database structures and constructs the necessary SQL statements. You choose when and how to execute these statements. The created SQL can be saved, edited, and reused for other tasks.

Catalog Manager facilitates information retrieval from the Db2 catalog by producing lists. The primary productivity benefit comes from your ability to initiate an action on an object, directly from a list. For example, you can issue a command on an object that will generate an SQL statement for the object. Catalog Manager generates the statement based on your specifications and passes the statement to Db2 to validate the SQL statement, execute the statement, and provide SQL return codes (SQLCODEs).

Most Db2 applications run on Db2 but are not designed to support Db2; BMC AMI Catalog Manager for Db2 is specifically designed to support the Db2 subsystem on which it runs. The Db2 subsystem version and function level determine how Catalog Manager behaves. The APPLCOMPAT value in Db2 does not affect how Catalog Manager behaves because Catalog Manager uses the version and function level to determine which Db2 features are activated.

You can prevent Catalog Manager from creating objects allowed at a specific version and function level by binding Catalog Manager packages at a level below the APPLCOMPAT value at which the features were introduced.

Note

Catalog Manager cannot support a Db2 subsystem running at function level V12R1M500 if it is using a code path designed for Db2 V11R1.
